Support Our LGBTQ+ Community By Urging Congress to Pass the Equality Act

Currently, fewer than 25 states have protections for LGBTQ+ folks written into law, and even fewer explicitly protect trans folks.

Since our inception, Black Lives Matter has been committed to supporting, investing in and protecting LGBTQ+ lives—because all Black lives matter, period. It is a priority for us to always put LGBTQ+ voices at the center of our conversations, and it’s important that we highlight the intersectionalities of being Black and LGBTQ+ in our movement.

That is why we’ve partnered with the National Black Justice Coalition (NBJC). NBJC’s mission is to end racism, homophobia, and stigma against LGBTQ+ folks. They’ve been a leading national civil rights organization since 2003 and are dedicated to the empowerment of Black LGBTQ+ people.

We are joining forces with NBJC, and many others, to bring attention to the need to pass the Equality Act—a critical legislation that would protect LGBTQ+ folks across the country. Passage of the Equality Act would ensure our country is able to move toward a more inclusive future. It aims to combat discrimination and provide protections for the LGBTQ+ community, because no one deserves to live in fear of hate.

That is why we need to put pressure on the Senate: so the Equality Act and protections for our LGBTQ+ community become codified into law.

Write a letter to your legislator and demand they pass the Equality Act today!

It is critical that we get the work done and take action whenever we can. Let’s continue to remember that Black lives can’t matter unless ALL Black lives matter.
