Black Lives Matter Global Network Responds to Senate Intelligence Committee Reports

Recently, the Senate Intelligence Committee issued two reports regarding Russian interference in the 2016 Presidential campaign by the Internet Research Agency, a Russian organization that is reported to have created fake accounts registered on major social networking sites. The reports describe a campaign to infiltrate the Black Lives Matter movement and suppress the Black vote in America. The Black Lives Matter Global Network understands that it is a target as we continue to fight for Black liberation across the globe, and we will not be deterred by those attempting to exploit us and the millions of Black folks in America who vote and demand change.

We will continue to work tirelessly to challenge white supremacy, injustice, and oppression throughout the world.

Founded in 2013 by Patrisse Cullors, Alicia Garza, and Opal Tometi in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin’s murderer, Black Lives Matter Global Network is a chapter-based, member-led organization in the US, UK, and Canada, whose mission is to build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes. We support the lives of the Black queer and transgender communities, the disabled, the undocumented, those with records, women, and all Black lives along the gender spectrum. By combating and countering acts of violence, creating space for Black imagination and innovation, and centering Black joy, we are winning immediate improvements in our lives.
